Privacy policy

How we collect, use and protect your personal information.

Who we are

Aldgate Chambers Solicitors of 66 Dickenson Road, Manchester M14 5HF is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. We are authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA no. 821470) and registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office under registration number ZB432270.

If you have a question about this policy or about how we handle your information, contact us at info@acsolicitors.org or on 0161 566 3492.

Information we collect

  • Identity and contact details, including documents needed to verify your identity
  • Information about your matter and the documents you provide
  • Financial information needed to carry out the work and to bill you
  • Correspondence between us
  • Information you send through the enquiry form on this website

Some matters require us to handle special category data — for example health information in an immigration, family or benefits case. We do so only where the law permits, generally because it is necessary for legal claims or advice.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To provide legal services — performance of our contract with you, or taking steps at your request before entering into one
  • To meet legal and regulatory duties — including anti-money-laundering checks and our obligations to the SRA
  • To establish, exercise or defend legal claims — our condition for handling special category data
  • Our legitimate interests — responding to enquiries, running and improving the practice, and keeping our records secure

Enquiries made through this website

When you complete the enquiry form we collect your name, email address, telephone number if you give one, the nature of your enquiry and your message. We use this only to respond to you and, if you go on to instruct us, to open your file.

Enquiries sent through the form are received and stored by Netlify, Inc., who host this website and process submissions on our behalf under a written agreement. Submissions are held in our account with them, and are not used by them for any purpose of their own.

We ask on the form that you do not send confidential or sensitive documents until we have confirmed we are able to act for you. Please follow that request — an enquiry form is not a secure channel, and until we have carried out our checks and confirmed our retainer, the protections that apply to a client file do not yet apply.

Where an enquiry does not lead to instructions, we keep it for one year and then delete it. We keep it for that period so that we can recognise a returning enquiry, and so that we have a record of who has approached us — which we may need in order to check for a conflict of interest before acting for someone else.

Other services used on this website

Some parts of this website load content from third parties. When that content loads, the provider receives your IP address and basic technical information about your device, because that is how the internet delivers the content to you.

NetlifyHosts this website, and receives and stores the messages you send us through the enquiry form
SRA clickable logo (supplied by the SRA’s partner, Yoshki)Verifies to visitors that we are a regulated law firm. Displaying it is a requirement of the SRA Transparency Rules

The “Get directions” links open Google Maps, but only if you choose to click them. Nothing is sent to Google Maps unless you do.

Server log files

Like almost every website, the servers that host this site automatically record certain technical information each time a page is requested. This typically includes your IP address, the type and version of your browser, your operating system, the page you came from, and the date and time of the request.

This information is generated automatically by the hosting infrastructure rather than collected by us, and we do not combine it with any other data or use it to try to identify you. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site running securely and free of technical faults.

Security of information sent to us

This website is served over an encrypted connection. However, information sent over the internet generally — including ordinary email — cannot be guaranteed to be completely secure, and complete protection against third-party access is not possible.

This is why we ask that you do not send confidential documents until we have confirmed we can act for you. If you need to send us sensitive material, speak to us first and we will agree a suitable method.

Unsolicited marketing to us

The contact details published on this website are provided so that clients and prospective clients can reach us. We do not consent to their use for unsolicited marketing or advertising material, and we reserve the right to take action if such material is sent.

Cookies

This website does not set any cookies of its own. We use no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.

Two small items may be stored in your browser, and both relate only to language:

  • If you choose to view the site in a language other than English, your choice is saved so that it is remembered on your next visit.
  • If your browser is set to a language we offer, we show a short suggestion asking whether you would prefer that language. If you decline, we record that you declined so that we do not ask you again.

Neither contains any information about you, neither is ever sent to us or to anyone else, and clearing your browser data removes both. Your browser tells every website it visits which language you prefer; we read that only to decide whether to show the suggestion, and we neither store nor record it.

The typefaces used on this site are served from our own website rather than from a third party, so no request is made elsewhere simply to display our pages.

Two items are loaded from other organisations, as described above: the SRA’s clickable logo, which we are required to display, and the maps of our offices. Neither is an advertising or tracking service. If either provider changes what it does, we will update this policy.

Who else we share information with

Where your matter requires it, we may share information with barristers, experts, interpreters, courts and tribunals, the Home Office, the Land Registry, our regulators and auditors, and our IT and case management providers. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for marketing.

Information sent outside the UK

We keep the number of outside services this website relies on to a minimum, which limits how far your information travels. Where a provider we use is based outside the United Kingdom, or stores information outside it, we satisfy ourselves that appropriate safeguards are in place so that your information continues to be protected to UK standards.

Netlify, Inc., who host this website and receive our enquiry form submissions, are based in the United States. Information sent through the enquiry form is therefore transferred outside the UK, and we rely on the safeguards in our agreement with them to keep it protected. This is one of the reasons we ask that you do not send confidential documents through the form until we have confirmed that we can act for you.

If you would like to know where information you have sent us is held, ask us and we will tell you.

How long we keep it

We retain client files for between one and six years after a matter closes, depending on the type of work and on our regulatory, insurance and legal obligations. At the end of that period the file is securely destroyed. Website enquiries that do not become matters are deleted sooner, as set out above.

Some documents are kept for longer where there is a good reason to do so — for example original documents you have asked us to hold, or records we are required to keep by law.

Keeping your information secure

This website is served over an encrypted connection, so anything you send through it is encrypted in transit. We restrict access to your information to those who need it to do their work.

Your rights

You have the right to be told how your information is used, to access it, to have inaccurate information corrected, and — in some circumstances — to have it erased, to restrict or object to its use, and to data portability. Some of these rights are limited where we must keep information to comply with a legal obligation or to defend a claim.

To exercise a right, contact us at info@acsolicitors.org. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, though we would ask you to raise it with us first so we can try to put it right.

Withdrawing consent

Where we rely on your consent to process information, you may withdraw it at any time by contacting us — an email is enough. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it, and it does not affect information we must keep for a different reason, such as a legal or regulatory obligation.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. This version was last reviewed on 18 August 2026.
